Premier League: Darwin Nunez Goes Crazy in Trial, Critics Regarded as Weird

Darwin Nunez showed off with Liverpool in a test party. He bought four goals in Liverpool’s landslide victory over RB Leipzig 5-0 at the Red Bull Arena, Friday (22/7/2022) early morning WIB.

In this pre-season test party, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp fielded his strongest team since the first minute. The front trio is filled with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz.

While Darwin Nunez just entered in the second half, replacing Firmino. Interestingly, it only took 45 minutes for Nunez to score four goals and bring Liverpool to a landslide victory.

These four goals seem to be Darwin Nunez’s way of responding to criticism. He was considered a failure after playing badly in the previous pre-season match.

Criticism of Darwin Nunez also stole the attention of Premier League analyst Paul Robinson. According to him, it makes no sense to criticize Nunez in this pre-season, especially since he is still adapting.

“It’s strange, the manager only uses this pre-season session to improve fitness. Especially because of the rotation of the squad, you can’t really judge the players,” said Robinson on Football Insider.

“In the next two weeks, we will see more. It feels too harsh to criticize the performance of players at this stage, especially players who have just joined the club.”

According to Robinson, pre-season matches cannot be used to analyze the performance of teams or players, especially for new players like Nunez. So, it is unfair to criticize Nunez.

“There were so many substitutions made in pre-season matches, the formations that were tried were also different. You can’t analyze anything from the results or performance in pre-season,” continued Robinson.

“Just a week or two before the season starts you will get an idea of โ€‹โ€‹the team, but now it’s too early, that’s clear.”

Darwin Nunez seemed to have a perfect night in the match at RB Leipzig’s headquarters. The Uruguayan national team player performed brilliantly in the duel. Only three minutes into the field, he managed to net the ball into RB Leipzig’s goal through a penalty.

Darwin Nunez again listed his name on the scoreboard in the 51st minute after utilizing a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Nunez successfully carved a hat trick when the game was running 68 minutes.

In the 90th minute, Darwin Nunez scored the fourth goal while bringing Liverpool to a 5-0 win. The other goal belongs to Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the 8th minute.

The four goals scored at the same time answered Darwin Nunez’s doubts. The reason is, the player is often the target of criticism for appearing badly in Liverpool’s two pre-season matches.

He played sluggish when the Reds lost 0-4 to Manchester United (12/7/2022) and won 2-0 over Crystal Palace (15/7/2022). Nunez rarely threatened the opponent’s goal in these two matches.

In fact, he was bought from Benfica in June 2022 for a price that reached 64 million pounds, and could soar to 85 million pounds.

Playing less well, Darwin Nunez is often compared to former Liverpool striker, Andy Carroll. The Englishman is one of Liverpool’s most expensive signings, and has performed poorly.
