Manchester City striker Raheem Sterling has reportedly joined Chelsea this summer.
City chose to sell the player rather than lose on a free transfer in 2023. The reason is, Sterling’s contract is only 12 months away.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano,️ Chelsea will soon finalize an agreement with Man City after lengthy talks, the final fee will be around £45m in addition.
“Chelsea have an agreement with Raheem Sterling and are now closing final details with Manchester City️ A long term contract was discussed and agreed a few weeks ago, everything was arranged between Sterling and Chelsea privately,” he wrote on Instagram.
Man City have no qualms about letting Sterling go to their Premier League rivals.
Raheem Sterling will be a player with a big salary at Chelsea next season. According to Romano, Thomas Tuchel was a key factor in Chelsea’s success in getting the Englishman.
“Thomas Tuchel has had direct conversations with Sterling, he was a key factor in the deal,” he continued.
The former Liverpool youth player ended the 2021/22 season with 17 goals and nine assists from 47 games across all tournaments.
With that achievement, there should be no more plans to extend his contract.
City have won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, five EFL Cups and two Community Shields with Sterling in the squad. He has scored 131 goals and 94 assists in 337 games since his arrival in 2015.
Chelsea have also been linked with Cristiano Ronaldo this summer. The star asked to leave Manchester United in order to compete in the Champions League. Reportedly, Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has met the owner of the Blues, Todd Boehly.
Chelsea is also called exploring with Neymar.
However, with the arrival of Sterling, it is possible that the two transfers were just a figment.
