Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened talks to bring in Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford this summer.

Roberto De Fanti’s agent has claimed that Tottenham recently held discussions over a Rashford move, but the North London club are pessimistic over their chances of reaching a deal.

“There seems to have been some discussion recently between the players’ camp and Tottenham Hotspur,” De Fanti told CaughtOffside via Sports Mole, Wednesday (8/6/2022).

“The London club feel negotiating a deal for Rashford is nearly impossible – so a transfer no longer appears to be an option.”

Marcus Rashford had a frustrating season under Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021/2022. He lost to compete with Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Anthony Elanga.

De Fanti added that Man United’s huge asking price made many potential applicants back down.

“All the top teams in Spain and Italy have been interested in inquiring about the availability of Marcus Rashford and the possibility of him leaving United this summer,” he said.

“Before any discussion, a valuation of around £40m, maybe £50m, seemed fair, but it turns out the striker will cost a lot more – between £70m and £80m.”

The club was aware of the situation so they chose to let the player stay.

“United believe the club is unlikely to pay for that, especially because of the bad season, so they are almost certain he will stay. They are also happy that Rashford is staying, also because they know they are selling him. They need to replace him and that’s not a priority, definitely not this summer.”

Rashford managed just five goals and two assists in 32 appearances across all competitions last season, while he was named in the starting XI on just 13 occasions in the Premier League.

Rashford’s difficulties at Old Trafford have cost him his place in the England squad. This is leading to rumors that he could try to force a move elsewhere ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
