Sadio Mane officially left Liverpool and joined Bayern Munich on Tuesday (22/6/2022). Although no longer in the Reds uniform, Mane is still considered a legend and club icon in the modern era.
The Senegal national team winger joined Liverpool in the summer of 2016, after being recruited from Southampton. Since then, Sadio Mane has paved the way for the Reds’ success in recent years.
Mane is Liverpool’s main goal machine. His collaboration with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino on the front lines made the Reds win the Premier League title, Champions League, and several other trophies.
Now Sadio Mane has left Liverpool. Mane officially moved to Bayern Munich and agreed to sign a contract until June 30, 2025.
After the transfer of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich was announced, Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, immediately admitted it was a moment of great loss for his team.
Even so, Klopp said the Reds did not need to mourn the loss of the player. He emphasized that Liverpool can respond to his departure by always remembering what achievements Mane has achieved while at Anfield.
“This is a big moment. It’s useless for anyone to try to pretend otherwise. One of Liverpool’s greatest players is leaving and we have to admit how important that is,” he told Liverpool’s official website.
“He left with our gratitude and love. He left with his status among guaranteed great players. And, yes, he left in a moment where he is one of the best players in world football,” said Klopp.
“But we must not think about what we have lost now, instead celebrating what we have with privilege. The goals he scored, the trophies he won; a legend, for sure, but also a modern Liverpool icon,” Klopp said.
Jurgen Klopp respects Sadio Mane’s decision not to extend his tenure at Anfield and opted to join Bayern Munich. He wished him success at Bayern.
“I fully respect his decision and I’m sure our supporters will too. If you like Liverpool, you have to like Sadio – non-negotiable. It is possible to do this while accepting our defeat is Bayern’s advantage,” he said.
“We don’t expect anything but success in every game he plays, unless, of course, it’s against us. His star will continue to rise, I have no doubts,” Klopp said.
Liverpool have long felt the fast of the title. They have never won the Premier League and last won the Champions League in 2005.
Since Sadio Mane was there, Liverpool could win those two trophies plus several other titles. According to Jurgen Klopp, all these trophies can be achieved by the Reds thanks to Mane’s help.
“From the first time he stepped through the door, he made us better,” said the German.
“If someone had told us at the time what he would contribute and achieve for this club, I’m not sure it would have been possible to understand at that point. At least not on the scale. Sadio made everything possible,” Klopp said.
