Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has said goodbye to Chelsea, Wednesday (8/6/2022).
He confirmed he would not stay after his loan period ended.
The 27-year-old spent £4.5m on loan from the Spanish champions last summer but has had a nightmare in the English capital under Thomas Tuchel.
Saul has only managed to score once in 23 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions. That only goal came in an FA Cup fifth-round win over Luton Town.
The Spaniard will establish himself as a regular starter in the tournament, but he only made a total of 10 Premier League appearances during the 2021-22 season.
Saul started Chelsea five times in 10 top-flight games. He only entered the starting XI once in the Champions League. played 75 minutes in a group stage match against Zenit St-Petersburg.
Chelsea have the option to make Saul permanent for 35 million euros. But the Blues have told Atletico they will not trigger that clause.
“Hello blues, I’m writing this to say goodbye to you. I wanted to tell you how I felt during this adventure. Things didn’t start off well at all. After a long time at home, changing things wasn’t easy,” Saul wrote on Twitter.
