Manchester – The legend of Manchester United (MU), Paul Scholes, sprayed Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane, who were considered disappointing throughout the 2021/2022 season. Both are considered as one of the culprits of the Red Devils’ depravity this season.

Cavani has had a difficult second season with United, marked by injury problems and behind-the-scenes unrest.

According to ESPN, Cavani opposed the club’s decision to sign Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2021 and ultimately wanted to leave, although that ultimately failed. The Uruguayan made just 20 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring just two goals and one assist.

“Cavani, I think he was a disgrace this year. He almost never played. He pulled out of the Middlesbrough game because he had to travel back from wherever he was,” said Paul Scholes as quoted by Metro, Friday (27/5/2022) .

Cavani withdrew from United’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Championship side Middlesbrough. United manager Ralf Rangnick claims the striker wants more time off, having featured for Uruguay in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Edinson Cavani was confirmed to leave Manchester United that summer. His contract expires on June 30, 2022 and the Red Devils have decided not to extend it.

According to rumors, Cavani is prioritizing a move to a La Liga club. However, Argentine club River Plate could also be an option for him.

Since strengthening MU, Cavani recorded 59 games in all competitions. In total, he contributed 19 goals and seven assists.

Meanwhile, Raphael Varano, joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021. MU had to spend 41 million pounds to secure his signature.

Many have called the move one of the best signings of the summer of 2021, but he faces a troubled debut season at the Red Devils. The Frenchman made 29 appearances, scoring one goal and contributing one assist.

Paul Scholes openly admitted that he was disappointed to see the appearance of the 29-year-old centre-back.

“You know, we went back to last year and we thought Ronaldo would come, Varane would come in. You think, ‘Yeah, this is it.’,” said Scholes.

“Varane is disappointing. I think he escaped a bit. A lot of injuries, barely played,” added the former United midfielder.
